Maya, a Product Manager living in Germany, approched us after hearing about the company
from a friend in Bulgaria. She asked us to craft her a custom desk to fit her small bedroom.
I'm looking for a wooden desk that saves space in my bedroom but is still functional for my needs. Ideally, it would be custom-designed to match my bedroom décor, rather than something I can find just anywhere. It's important to me that the desk is affordable, but I also want it to be durable and last a long time.
Crafting a piece that maximises functionality in a small space and ensuring a stylistic match with the bed. Balancing affordability with quality and durability.
We created a compact desk with a sleek wooden top and sturdy metal legs, custom-made to fit Maya's needs. Crafted from high-quality reclaimed oak, it seamlessly blends with her bedroom's look.
For Maya's desk, Ivan selected reclaimed oak beams. Oak timber is renowned for its strength and longevity, boasting deep beige tones with dark knots and swirls.
This century-old wood, sourced from a mountain dwelling, has naturally dried out, making it as strong as steel and free from pollution or adverse weather effects
The oak beams are meticulously cut into even-sized planks and glued together, supported by clamps at each corner to ensure a secure fit. After two days, any gaps are filled with special filler.
Following this, the planks undergo both coarse and fine sanding to achieve a smooth, splinter-free texture. Ivan opts for a live edge finish for the outer edge of the desk, leaving it uneven yet smooth.
To protect against moisture and spills while enhancing the beauty of the old oak, Ivan applied a double coat of clear water-based varnish.
This eco-friendly finish preserves the wood's natural grain, adds a durable layer of protection, and brings out rich tones and textures, ensuring the desk remains both beautiful and functional for years to come.
The desk's legs were crafted by a local metal smith in black metal. Full instructions and components for assembly were included with the desk top and legs.
Maya attached the legs to the table and placed it in her room next to her wooden framed bed.
She now enjoys a sturdy and beautiful desk that not only fits the space in her room but also complements her wooden bed perfectly!

"I live in one-room apartment near Munich in Germany. In 2020 when the pandemy started I had to start working 100% home office. This created my need to have a working desk. When I started looking in furniture shops like Ikea, Segmüller, XXXLutz have to offer, I could not find anything suitable.
This is when I contacted Ivan to ask if he could make a table for me, one I can use for a desk now, but also use as a dining table later. Ivan immediately had this idea of using a 150-year old wood that used to be a roof of a house. In no time the vision became a real beautiful one-of-a-kind table. The only thing missing were the legs and Ivan decided to combine the beautiful table with black metal legs. This makes me a proud owner of the most unique and full-of-history working desk.
Ivan is an artist and has a vision for his furniture pieces. I trusted him 100% and was sure that I will get something unique at the end. Recycling wood and creating live edge design furniture is what Ivan believes in.
